Oh my.

This is the new day and the new way of handling business at UT?

"A University of Tennessee trustee said Thursday that the group charged with winnowing candidates for UT president did not conduct in-depth background checks before picking 12 finalists. "

And:

"Jim Murphy said the council's vote earlier this week also came without any discussion among the members themselves of information obtained on each candidate. "

So if KNS is to be believed, there are problems with 2 candidates and not everyone knew about it.

"Council member and UT trustee Susan Williams said in a phone interview Thursday that she had just met with Hitchcock on a site visit and described her as "very impressive."

Hey, trustees, this is starting to sound like business as usual, not a new and improved system.

As the lady on the competing station would say, "Clean it up!!!!" (sorry WATE)

Do we really want someone from Connecticut running our school?

What would the Lady Vols and Pat Summit think?

I have never understood why we think we have to go out of state to get anyone to do anything.Do we not have anyone in the state of Tennessee capable of doing anything? Are we Tennesseans so dumb and dishonest we can't be trusted to handfle the job?I just think we should keep things concerning Tennessee in Tennessee.....

Someone from out of state is more likely to buy the whole "it was Schumacher's fault" story than someone from here.

This way the trustees can rewrite history and gloss over the fact they didn't do their jobs either. I'd like to see a true improvement in the system across the board not just lip service.

I really hope this works out, but they need to stop letting Susan Williams speak for the board. I keep remembering her describing Schumacher in the same glowing terms she's using now, and it makes me very very nervous.

Saying it's better doesn't make it better. Time will tell, and whoever the new president is, we wish him luck.

With some luck, Utah may hire Loren Crabtree as their next President -- and whisk him away from UT! I wonder if Utah knows that Crabcakes is currently neck deep in a very smelly case concerning racial discrimination against minorities and women also involving forgeries by administrators -- ole daddy Crabcakes is one of the defendants ;-).

Here we go again?

Strike 1.

Also, Crabtree lost the bid to go to Utah.

Strike 2.

The pitcher comes to the mound, winds up, throws, and he's ........

Oh,somewhere in this favored land the sun is shining bright.
The band is playing somewhere, and somewhere hearts are light.
And,somewhere men are laughing, and little children shout,
But there is no joy in Knoxville
mighty,Well I think you get the picture. Grin

It looks to me like they would have been a little smarter than they were the last time.  After the Schumaker incident, it looks like they would have been more interested in what kind of background their candidates had.
