Making license plates sounds like a good occupation for Shumaker.

"I fought the law and the law won..."

Perhaps Loren Crabtree, Jan Williams and his little helpers in the College of Business can join him on the chain gang. I hear the date for the trial has been set for this bunch of goons.

What is going on at UT?  A reasonable person would think that with all the highly paid professors, faculty and administrators at the University that they could come up with one more panel (amongst hundreds, throughout the UT system) to research, investigate, and select a new UT president without having to shell out $90k to a firm to do their work for them.  When will the people that work at UT do something to earn their pay for a change?

This situation, and all of our previous shenanigans (i.e., Wade Gilley), are making us look like the way most of the country probably think of us here in the South, already.  Which isn't favorably, at all.

As usual the burden of paying for all of this will be on the back of the taxpayer, struggling to make a decent paycheck in this state, and the student struggling to be able to pay their expenses for tuition, fee's and the exhorbitant cost of books to attend the state's so-called "flagship-institution."  If UT's Board of Trustee's (and all the others in charge of our great institution of further learning) keep showing their incompetence and lack of ability to lead in an effective manner the end result will be graduating students, who hold degree's from this University, who enter job interview's only to be considered as less than desirable candidates over graduates of institutions of higher esteem.

This is a situation that none of the residents of the state of Tennessee can afford.  We need an institution such as the University of Tennessee system to do it's job to assist in the bettering of life for the citizens of Tennessee.  This is the message that needs to be thumped into the skulls of the paper pushers collecting their huge checks for doing a job that any of us can do just as ineffectively as they are currently doing.  No wonder people were questioning possible board resignations when all of this started.  Politics (and MONEY)  in this state will not let that happen but a continued poor performance by all of these groups will not be continually tolerated.  At the very least, I hope it will not be.

As always, the students and citizens of Tennessee continue to be on the pointy side of the Big Orange Screw.  Maybe if the system wants to find a true leader and one with integrity they should be looking for a retiring Marine Colonel or Brigadier General who can do the job that is necessary and cut out all the bull[bleep] that is going on.  Time will tell.....but with the systems past poor ability in selecting the right person, and the methods to do so, I continue to have my extreme doubts.

Irregardless, .......Go Big Orange  !!!!!!!!

Is the 6 Soundoff system set to modify these postings?

It must be....since I didn't use the term "bullnuts".....but rather the substance that is excreted from their posterior when they have to GO.  i.e., bull[bleep].....if you can't decipher that.

BULL****

Censureship.....hmm...you wouldn't think a member of the media would go for such a thing.  But it is possible that they are merely complying with FCC rules of some sort or another.

So I won't make much of a stink over it or my choice of words.  But most people do not appreciate their words being censored or plagiarized.

Thanks for making this forum available.....now let's see if we get any decent posts in this colummn regarding UT's crazyiness.

What makes you thnk that we expect honesty, integrity and outstanding leadership from UT and its leaders?!

After fiascos propogated by Shumaker, Crabtree and the Board of Trustees, you must think we are stupid!

UTK is a mediocre and poorly run institution. The leaders routinely rip off the students and the tax payers. When they get caught after a lot of abuses pile up, there is much wailing, finger pointing and denials -- and then it's back to business as usual. Sometimes they get dragged to court for breaking the law (see Loren Crabtree, Jan Williams and the B-school admin in court next October); then, hopefully, they get sent straight to jail. Maybe this will happen to Shumaker and some of the Trustees too. I have my fingers crossed.

We use a filter to automatically screen out offensive words. This is a web site intended for a general audience and many people find some words offensive. Our intent is not to censor opinions, but we will take what steps necessary to out personal attacks or offensive language.

Here is WATE's news article:

John, I really think that there were no backroom dealings.  If there were, then Randy Nichols would be guilty as well.  I don't think he would jeapardize his position.

I am glad that we are moving on after Shumaker. There is far too much crime and dirty dealing going at UTK right now to keep beating a dead horse:  what about Loren Crabtree and his shenanigans? And the shady deals behind raising money for Glocker at the Business College? Or the Trustee who was charged with rape? And if you really want to see an overpaid SOB -- how about Fat Fulmer?!

No Shumaker is small potatoes...

I worked up @ UT campus and @ the president's house on many occasions from Nov 02 until May 03, I can tell you that he spared no expense when it came to his idiosyncracies.  I think of all the money that was wasted on his parties, carpet, and adding an additional room that was a wanted luxery, that wasted money could of been spent on some of the dorms that are in deplorable condition.  If my child wishes to attend UT, that would be wonderful, but in no way would I let her stay @ the dorms and or housing accomodations, in their current condition.  From my own experience and opinion Shumaker was not a well liked man.  I hope that they use incident as a constant reminder, that our children are our future, and the investment should be made in them, not the college president to that extreme.  RCM

Well, it has happened... Shumaker is suing UT for $400,000.

I say pay him and get the guy out of our hair! Also, I'm sure that administrators at UTK and politicians in Nashville will use this as a soapbox and coffer for more airtime and more money.

It's difficult to be outraged at an old problem, when we are faced with new ones at UTK.  Shumaker is only one of many administrators at UTK living high on the hog at tax payers' expenses.  And, actually the $400,000 he is asking seems reasonable in comparison to what other administrators are getting. The guys at the business school, for example (who are also getting sued for another small matter - discrimination, etc.) "cannot account for" over 3/4th of a million just this year in their budget.  The Dean's reccommendation -- let's cut salaries to staff and students' benefits! Meanwhile, the business school's administrators (the Dean added another layer last year as part of a streamlining effort) get paid over $200,000 each and have yatchs, etc. in the Caribbean!

Shumaker is a stale and small potato.
