This is in reply to the CB post,I don't care what it is you are doing ,if it takes your attention off the road you don't need to be doing it.I take driving seriously, because usually my children are in my car.I treat all the other drivers as if they have children in their cars, with care and respect. Is that so much to ask? :-/

Although I admit I laughed at first when I saw this,it bothers me to think about anyone dying because of a phone, that just seems soooo preventable.(talking about the picture in the previous post) Embarrassed

Kanasdatsi and Faith, I would like to meet two people who are so perfect they NEVER were distracted while driving...... oh, but only Jesus Christ is perfect. I said before, if u can handle it and it's important, go for it. If not, hang up and drive. Please read the entire posts before passing judgement, Kanasdatsi. Oh, wait, only God can judge me (or you). Aren't you glad? By the way, how would u know if a near miss was caused by alcohol? Stop and do a breath test or what? Cheesy

I'd like to see people use this much energy censoring our entertainment and defending our Lord and Savior so perhaps our children would not only live, but live well and eternally.

I use my energy both ways, maybe you haven't been reading my other posts.I am not perfect, never claimed to be.I do believe that the use of a phone while driving is dangerous no matter how sure you are of your skills. You can never predict what other drivers are going to do,and the time you have to react is small, not enough time to say goodbye, hang up,and then react.

Please try not to turn every topic into a religious debate.  If you feel another religious topic is warranted, then start a new thread.  This topic is about distractions while driving primarily caused by cell phones.  Smiley

I am NOT saying talking on a cell phone while driving isn't dangerous, but no one has given a good reason why it should be ILLEGAL!!!! (Nor has anyone justified why it's ok for the other distractions, like smoking, eating, drinking (soda), etc.)
Forgive my ignorance, I was under the impression the discussion began as a way to solicit good reason to make it ILLEGAL. From the posts I see, that's no long the object of conversation. Therefore, I've stated my opinion- I'm outta here. C'ya. God be w/ya.

Don't go LovingMother.  But as M.Ousley mentioned, don't turn this into a religious debate.  I read the complete post and you were the first to mention any religious implications.  I guess you feel the need to "witness" but sometimes it backfires.

I remember the CB radio.  I didn't have one but I do not recall any accidents which were caused by usage of the CB radio.  It was mainly for the truckers.

So what is different today?  Why is road rage so prevalent?  Regardless if it is cell phones, screaming kids, eating food, why are we so bothered by distractions?  I think the reason is, we are trying to do too many things at once.  Our minds get overloaded, even for the multi-taskers.  Life was simpler 50 years ago.  Now it is more complicated and we haven't learned how to adjust yet.

Plus, and in my opinion this is a biggie.  We as a society have become more "I, me, mine".  MY RIGHTS are infringed when someone cuts me off on the interstate.  I don't think it used to be that way.  We were more courteous back then.  Now, it seems like, "I'm coming through, get out of my way!"

p.s. I miss the spell checker.

If you were a genie and a person asked you this wish, "I wish you would not grant me this wish" what would you do?

Lovingmother, I hope you were not saying you were leaving as a response to my post.  I wrote that post as respectful as I could.  I do realize that you hold your religion very dear and it influences your viewpoints about things, but this post was not about religion.  There are two other threads already started on religious subjects, and if they don't encompass the topics you would want them to, you are more than free to start a new one.  No hard feelings.   Smiley
