A big pet peeve of mine is how news anchors and reporters "mysteriously" vanish from the newscasts without so much as an advance warning - and certainly without an explanation as to where in the heck they went!  I realize that professionalism might dictate that everyone that decides to pursue a new job isn't given a big send off on the air.  But what TV news people should never forget is that they truly become part of our lives.  We trust them to give us the facts in times of good and bad.  We bring them in to our lives each day - in to our bedrooms at night when we are tucked in for gosh sake.  Couldn't we at least get the courtesy of hearing "this is John Haney's last broadcast", or "Jeff Lennox's last broadcast was yesterday to pursue a job in ......"?  Perhaps just a blurb on the website would even suffice.  And I'm not just picking on WATE; this is the standard at all stations.  Here today, gone tomorrow with no explanation.

A recent exception to this rule that I thought was fantastic was when Fox 43 News had a brief tribute to Adam Longo on his last day, and even told where he was going.  It was actually genuinely touching.  And on that note, Adam and Melissa will be very missed around my house.  They were both very good at what they do, and both had a real presence and personality that came through on TV.

I won't harp on how irritating it can become that Knoxville is a mere stepping stone to bigger and better things for most news people.  I personally have been with the same company for 20 years.  2 years in one place doesn't seem to be excessive to me.  Thank god for Lori, Gene, Matt, Jim, Tearsa, Bob, and the others at WATE that have stuck around.  Now, if we only didn't have to meet and greet yet another revolving door of reporters.

Perhaps Mulder and Scully need to be called in.

They have had some pretty bad ones to, who was the red head on the morning tennessee that wore contact and looked bug eyed and mispronounced almost everything.  I didn't know John Haney was gone when?
