I can't believe I can't find any news online about the stabbing at a Brendon Park apartment lastnight. Anyone have a link? Did they find this killer yet?

Thanks for your reply. So sad. My little sister always leaves her door unlocked even after being warned by family to LOCK it. Hopefully this will make her realize the danger.

I too cannot believe that this happened to such a bright and beautiful young girl.  She was only 21 years old and her life was just beginning.  Something went horribly wrong for this sort of violence to take such a sweet person!  This makes me fear for my teenagers to move out and go to college away from home.  So sad!!   Sad

They sure are keeping it tight lip about suspects and whether or not the roommate is a victim or suspect. I hope they find out whoever did this. It's so sad she was only 21 and about to graduate from college. I will pray for her family.

I think they're being tight lipped because they suspect the male roomie but don't have any hard evidence to arrest him.   The next few weeks are going to be interesting I think.

IT SEEMS TO ME THE MORE THINGS CHANGE THEY MORE THEY STAY THE SAME.  I THINK IT WAS TWENTY YEARS AGO THAT A YOUNG WOMAN IN NY CITY WAS STABBED TO DEATH WHILE SCREAMING FOR HELP WHILE IN THE COURT YARD OF HER BUILDING AND NO ONE CALLED THE POLICE OR CAME TO THIS YOUNG LADY DEFENDENSE.  THE WHOLE COUNTRY WAS UP IN ARMS OVER THAT MURDER. THE KNOXVILLE  NEIGHBORS SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES.  BLOOD ON ALL THEIR DOORS AND NO ONE HAD A GUN OR THE BACKBONE TO OPEN THEIR DOOR AND GIVE THIS CHILD ASSISTANCE.  I HOPE THEY SLEEP WELL TONIGHT, NO AMOUNT OF SCREAMING WILL EVER WAKE THEM UP. THE MANAGEMENT OF THE APARTMENTS SHOULD BE RAN OUT OF TOWN PUTTING OUT THAT FALSE INFORMATION,  AND TRYING TO MAKE EVERYONE FEEL SECURE WHILE A KILLER IS STILL AT LARGE.  I WOULDN'T MY DAUGHTERS LIVING AT BRENDON PARK.

I am guessing by your response that you did not watch lastnights news. A neighbor DID call 911.

Hi,
I have been watching the news every day but have not seen any update on this murder.  It really concerns me - my daughter has a job at W. Town Mall during Xmas season.   I just wonder if this is a "random" stalking and murder or if this poor young woman knew her killer.  I cannot imagine the pain her family must be going through.  Sure hope we hear something soon.

Buy your daughter a can of pepper spray.  Also, if she is old enough (mature enough) to handle it, encourage her to pursue her concealed weapon permit.

This is really sad especially with the holidays right around the corner.  I just hope that the judicial system does not slap this person on the hand and let them go on bond if and when they find him.    I will be praying for the family.

Sometimes pepper spray is not enought.  I watched a demonstration on a product called freeze +p.  Its a mixture of pepper spray and CS gas.  Its very potent and I have not seen the first person that has been hit with it keep persuing what they were after.  Most of the time they hit the ground and were screaming and begging for water to wash it off but it disabled them for at least 7 to 9 minutes.     It can be purchased on the internet and probably places like Greens Military supply but please check the warning on this, it is extremely potent.

I am wondering why we still have not heard who did this horrible crime.  This needs to be the top of the news and there are many people that want to know who.  Is this person still walking among us free?

I've know Johnia for years. I've been reading every article that I can find to see who did this to her. Reguarding the person who said "Why didn't anyone help" and the one who replied "someone did call 911". The statement said that a neighbor heard someone moaning and screaming outside his door and called 911 & when the dispatcher ask for his name, he hung up. This person didn't open the door to see what was going on. Calling 911 was a start but trying to possible help her would have been the next step. She beat on several doors begging for help and yet no-one came out to her defense. This is truely sad. The articles say Johnia was living w/ her room mate, was he a friend or a boyfriend?  Because her fiance' lives in Michigan. I wonder if police have ruled out him(her fiance) as a suspect? I'm not stating facts but this is big part of the story that these news reports keep leaving out. To me this whole ordeal does not seem like a "random act". Why would this "killer" attack someone on a 3rd floor apartment. Knowing it would be harder to escape the 3rd floor verses the 1st floor. And why would the killer stick around until the police arrive then leave on foot? To me this seems like a crime of passion. Using a knife as a weapon seems more personal than using say a gun. This "killer" obviously wanted her to suffer and be in pain & have a slow dying process. Another thing that bothers me. If this stabbing was just "a random act" of violance then why were their no signs of a break in and nothing was stolen? I belive thier is  a bigger picture here. I understand residence at the apartment complex being scared that this may happen again but I really believe this killer knew his intentions that night and also knew the victim. I believe this is a crime of passion, derived from pain and anger. I hope they find this man so we can all sleep with peace at night knowing justice will be done. Johnia was such a care free person and always full of love and dedication in all she did. I'm sorry I've written so in depth but I wanted my point to be heard. I'm not pointing fingers and everything I've written concerning the murder is what I think may have happend. I'm sure the police are thinking the same things that I am but if not my point will be heard some way. She was a good friend of mine. I want her story to be heard and not just pushed aside as another murder case.

Steff,
I'm so glad that someone finally responded that knows Johnia. I am not going to sit her and claim she was my best friend, but she was a good friend. I had been thinking about calling her recently to see how she was doing because I hadn't talked to in a few months and now I regret it. I've known her for years also. I've been reading this message board for days and just haven't responded b/c I was a bit afraid to. I cheered with Johnia at THS and although I never agreed with the way everyone treated her I still cared about her. I feel so bad for Joan, Mike, and Jason and anyone that knew her. On the other hand anyone that did not know her is truely missing out. Johnia was so wonderful. Whenever I was going through hard times she would always listen to me even if I talked about that one thing 500 times she didn't care. She was truely a good friend. I am sorry about your loss as well. I just know one day we will see her again in heaven and I know whoever did this to her will answer for it one day. But on the other hand I do agree with you, this story does not need to be pushed aside. I hope people could learn from it to step in and help one another. I hope the people at her apartment complex are ashamed of themselves. Imagine if at least three or four people would've went and stood up for her. It would've been all of these people versus her killer. I also hope people will be aware that this could happen to them. Especially considering whoever did this to her is still free. How do we know were not his next victim? I have questions too and I hope this gets solved so that everyone's questions will be answered. Best of luck to you Steff.

I didnt know Johnia.  I did graduate fro THS in Bristol however I'm a bit older then her.  I also live very close to Brenden Park in a different apt. complex and knowing a girl from my home town was murdered here, is a shock.  I moved down here this summer after getting married.  Up until now I haven't been scared.  My parents and family of course were a little nervous.  I lived in Bristol all my life.  I guess you could say I was a country girl.  I'm not much on big citys but Knoxville is now my home and I've been very happy here.

Last week though, when the news broke, it was a little shocking.  I stop at that Weigels almost every morning.  I pass those apartments on my way to work and even looked into moving there before we found where we are now.

I gotta admit, now when my husband is not home (especially after dark).  I won't answer my door.  I get a little spooked.  However, we do own a gun which he taught me years ago to use.  We don't keep it loaded, but being a small town girl, it makes me feel a bit safer to know that if someone was to try to come in on me, I could handle it.  I wouldn't hesitate.  I agree with M.Ousley.  young women should know how to defend theirselves in todays world.  Living in a small town like Bristol I never thought of it.  We would go to sleep at night with the doors unlocked!!  Answer the door to almost anyone.  Everyone there knew everyone else or at least someone related to them.  I've had to learn new things since moving here.  I don't carry a gun, but I do have a spray, and I do know how to try to "appear" when walking outside at night alone.

I can learn how to shoot a gun, I can carry pepperspray, heck I can even fight if I have to but some girls, aren't prepared to do things like that.  I'm afraid there are too many girls in this town who are still oblivious to the dangers around them.....maybe after such a horrible tragedy, we can open our eyes and pay attention to what's going on around us ALL the time.  Be safe.

To the girls from THS who posted earlier, from one hometown girl to another, my thoughts and prayers are with you all, and Johnia's family.
