After being a victim of a major scam of over $15,000 by a mobile home dealer on Clinton Hwy. I have tried talking to several other home owners from this and other dealers, that the practice of raising prices and adding fees is the normal every day business.I would like to hear from other home owners who were decived and would like to know why these companies are not investigated for these practices .

I checked with the BBB before I went to International and they gave them a good rating.I know now Clayton covers them-selves very well

Every time I have ever tried to ask the BBB anything about anything,"They know nothing" I think someone should keep tabs on the BBB as in "Who's paying who?I am not in any way accusing anyone of anything,I just wonder why it is like that and after I have called the BBB I usually find out after its too late,I made a mistake.....

My Son bought a very large Modular Home (Big Double Wide) and you wouldn't believe the damage they done to it setting it up.It took over a year to get it fixed, they broke all the water pipes the floor was buckeled, the fireplace cracked, septic system ran backwards, septic tank was showing 6" above ground, foundation was layed with block and stucko'ed,but they didn't put any morter between the blocks and they cracked in a month. They took the money for the landscaping and even screwed it up,I won't mention the name of the moble home lot , but it is the only one on the main drag going into Wartburg, and guess what their BBB Rating is,and theyre even members.............

My victimizing was a little bit different.  The dealer forged my name on the draw request to the bank and emptied the account.  I had kept track of all expenses related to the set up of the house.  The grading, septic, well and the electric pole and hook up were well under spec, even though the well was not put where I wanted it.  I was entitled to walkways and driveway, all I got was 2 loads of gravel that I had to pay out of pocket.  Even the footers that I had dug and poured came out of my pocket.  Yes we filed suit.  We even had a handwriting expert prove that was not my signature.  But the attorney we ended up with (and he came from a very large reputable law firm in knoxville)  sat on his ass too long and the S.O.B. filed bankruptcy.  He is still doing business only not in the mobil home sales.  I have been told that I am lucky.  He screwed a lot of other people by not paying for the land that he sold with their home and not paying the home dealers for the mobil homes he sold off his lots.

If you think that the DEALERS are the problem/ Wait until you check out the parks for mobile homes. Clayton Estates goes up 10% every May. Ilived there for 8 years and only once did it stay  at the same price. That was because of a homeowners meeting. Jim Clayton himself came to it. He said it was because of taxes. They did not pay city tax even though they get city services.Givint to UT gets perks!
