As a matter of fact, I am opinionated.

Hey FA,
Can you explain to us what will happen if we use our facebook login to log into the WATE account that uses our e-mail rather than our username?  Do the posts automatically appear on our walls?  Do all our facebook friends get to see our WATE comments?

Can you change my other login username to be be deb instead of the first part of my email address?  I've been deb for a long time, and even though I complained a lot about my name - it is my name.

Logging in using Facebook? I'm confused by what you're talking about. Where are you wanting to do that? In Sound Off, in story comments?

I believe it was in the story comments.  I logged into the website using an e-mail address rather than a user name.  When I got to the comment box, there was another "login" button with a drop down menu which would let you login using facebook, twitter and other options.

You then had the option to exchange information between your facebook account and the WATE website.

I didn't know exactly what this would do, so I stopped there.  I was curious as to whether this would allow WATE to be viewed in facebook.

Deb, most web sites allow you to share any information, i.e. the article you are reading, on your Facebook account, if you have one.  So, when you click that Share with Facebook icon, it will ask you to log into your FACEBOOK account if you aren't already logged in so that it can transfer that particular article on to your FACEBOOK page to share with your FACEBOOK friends...it doesn't give WATE Forum users access to your Facebook, unless you have them added as Friends on your FB account.

Does that make sense?  If not, let me know and I will try explain it in a different way.

That makes sense, and it's what I was afraid of.  The articles and discussions are of interest only to those participating, so slapping it on my facebook page would just be more useless clutter.  I already have to hide at least three .....ville applications a day because I don't give a rat's behind about who's building a barn, feeding a fish or planting a garden.

I guess it's time to look into creating a forum.

That's the nature of the beast, I'm afraid.  And, you're welcome.

I admit, the comment feature in our stories is poorly executed. We're working on a replacement.

To clarify how our current commenting system works, though, you do not need to use Facebook or Twitter to log in. You can create an account on our site.

I guess it's time to look into creating a forum.

.

I may be wrong but it should not be that hard.

The cost of a server that can handle the volume of traffic and store that amount of data like WATE's may be expense!

If you do start one let me know...I would like to join!

If you look at the bottom of this forum's page you will see.....

Simple Machines Forum — SMF in short — is a free, professional grade software package that allows you to set up your own online community within minutes.

Its powerful custom made template engine puts you in full control of the lay-out of your message board and with our unique SSI - or Server Side Includes - function you can let your forum and your website interact with each other.

SMF is written in the popular language PHP and uses a MySQL database. It is designed to provide you with all the features you need from a bulletin board while having an absolute minimal impact on the resources of the server. SMF is the next generation of forum software - and best of all it is and will always remain completely free!
