Does this mean that all posts will be deleted from the internet?

Will WBIR.com forum be #1 in town?

I can't say what will happen long term because the server the forum is on is old and probably should be retired. But for the foreseeable future, we'll leave everything running and just turn it into read-only mode.

I really wish you folks would reconsider. Since I'm in Iraq and do not tweet, twerp, twitt, Facebook, youtube, blog, bloog, moog, or anything else, this is MY only way to respond to items in the news.

Maybe it is time for your family to move and make WBIR.com forum #1 in town!

I do not care for WBIR.com forum format!

There is NO WAY this Forum should be shut down!  It serves and has served as a valuable forum for discussion of all current events.  What a shame that WATE would shut it down.  Facebook or others have their place but so does a forum on a site like WATE.com.  I would not let the "competition" get the best of you.

I motion that WATE please reconsider its decision to end the Forum and here is why.

1.  It serves a public function that CANNOT be done on Facebook, Twitter, other websites.   Those other sites all have an agenda and/or purpose that is NOT for the public good.

2.  It allows for ALL VOICES to be heard, even those with whom I may completely disagree with and that it is even more vital in 2010 than in the past.  I have personally been kicked off the State Democratic Party website, knoxviews.org, and others who will NOT allow an opinion different from the ideology that they spew on their site.  I have also been kicked off of RedState.org, I guess I am an equal opportunity offender,  Grin.  Anyhow, as someone very active on Facebook, I use it mainly for political purposes, but the truth is that groups are either "conservative," "liberal," so forth and they do NOT want opposing viewpoints presented about an issue.  Well, that is at the very heart of a democratic republic!

3.  It allows for EVERYONE from whatever background they are to come together and discuss an issue.  America, as a society, and the world are becoming "too exclusive" and by that I mean everyone is segregating into their "little groups."  Now we all do it and to an extent it is both okay and necessary but not as a society.  It is very bad for it to be at the aggregate level and history is replete with examples of what happens when such a focus on exclusivity takes place.  The world is full of differences and having a Forum like the one here allows for EVERYONE to participate, whether or not I or others like what they have to say.   Wink

I do not personally think that Twitter will be anything but what it is now, a tool for very targeted social media use.  Facebook and other sites competing to be the next "Facebook," are about expanding their website, NOT anything else.  WATE allows for a defined public good to be served by having this Forum.

Perhaps WATE should consider creating their own Facebook page, just like all the other big news stations?  Got to move with the times.....

Not good. I remember when Metro Blab of Metro Pulse's web-site shut down. A lot of that was caused by folks questioning the recovering alcoholic Saudi kissing redneck Texan's presidential policies, and a lot of progressive folks' voices were quelled.

Seems it's exactly the opposite reason here, for most of the past 1.2 years, there's been a never ending barrage of anti-O'Bama redneck drivvle. Every point that's been made that doesn't suckle Rush Limbaugh's sweaty flesh, is immediately slammed as O'Bama Socialisum--whatever the F, that is.

Good luck WATE. Sorry your blog has turned into constant O'Bama bashing, sometimes it's ignorant drivvle like that that turns folks away.

I too hate to see the forum removed.

I've enjoyed visiting the forum over the years, and feel like I know the fellow forum members.

Is there anything that can be done to save it?

Facebook is way too cluttered and limited, and I know that I would not have time to wade through the junk to see comments on a topic of interest.  (Even tech support calls don't keep me on hold that long!)

I know that we can post comments at the end of news stories, but that just doesn't do it for me.  I like the interaction here.

I don't care too much for the WBIR forum because I don't watch the WBIR newscast.

Hey, keep it open and I'll even allow your site to display the advertisements.  (That's a major concession for me, you know.)

I agree Facebook is way too cluttered and limited, besides you name and picture should not be shown to the world, unless you are very arrogant and proud to see your name and picture on the internet for all to see for what ever reason...like obama. The results can only be something you will not like.

The WBIR forum could become a descent forum if it had the members from this forum (that does not include the forum format).

I invite those who want to continue your debate against my post to go to WBIR forum, at least until we can come up with a better alternative. Oh, on WBIR I will be AKAAbracadabra since Abracadaba was taken..so they tell me.

The server is old,but it seem to be working quite well for now.If it is so old, then you might consider giving it to us so we could keep it available.Since you are considering retiring it anyway, thus throwing it out,you would not be losing anything.I have someone who would set it up insure that it could continue to operate. It would continue to be free.
