It's time to say goodbye.

When this discussion forum was created nearly 10 years ago, it was one of the few places available to discuss local news events. Since then, however, we've seen an amazing growth of opportunities, here at WATE.com and across the Internet. With Facebook, Twitter, in-story comments, polls and other discussion options, there is no longer a shortage of places to share viewpoints.

We will be shutting down this forum on April 1, 2010. (No joke intended.) We hope you will continue to visit WATE.com and share your opinions in our other discussion features. Thank you for your loyal participation and contribution to the discussion.

I hope that the Iraqi factions that are still carrying out terror in his name take a good hard look at the events of his capture. They are risking their lives for the ideals of a man who is a complete coward!!!
Don't misunderstand me, I am glad that he was captured without incident, but according to his reputation, one would think he would at least ATTEMPT to resist.
I Praise God for answered prayers. The Ace of Spades is finally out of commission!!! Wink

He was found in a hole in the ground in a cellar.  US forces actually had to dig him out.   Roll Eyes

Today is a good day.  Regardless of why the war was started, much good has come from it with the toppling of this evil regime.  I'm proud to be an American. Smiley

I am very proud to be an American!!!! I was talking to my mom about it and was telling her how awesome this is for all the people that have lost their lives fighting for iraqi peoples freedom. She brought up a point I failed to think about...........we still have Osama Bin Laden. I wonder if they are still trying to find him or if they will bargain with saddam. Maybe tell him we won't kill him if he helps to find osama. What does everyone else think. This is my own opinion and I don't expect you to agree so just tell us what you think.

The question now is who should try him for his war crimes?

The Hauge or the Iraqi people?

IMHO, I believe the people of Iraq know exactly how to handle this ex-tyrannt.

From what I understand the Hauge will not impose a death sentence so the Hauge will only sentence him to life in prison.

If they do execute Saddam, would the terrorists be encouraged by his "martyrdom"?

Life in prison would have to be in solitude because the other inmates would have a heyday with him.

Some may perceive him as a Martyr if he were executed but I think most Iraqi's would think he had his chance at martyrdom before he was pulled out of that hole. Reports said that he had two AK 47's and a pistol.
I am truly glad he chose not to. Not only for our intelligence gathering and what it exposed about his character to any loyal extremists, but because it does not seem like he is ready for eternity!
In answer to the question about what was thought about Osama. Intelligence has linked Mohammed Atta (one of the main planners/hijackers during 9-11) to Saddam Hussein and that in fact they may have collaborated the attack. This is in accordance to documents and other classified material they collected in Iraq after the war.  I believe that they are still looking very hard for Osama and like Saddam, they will ferret him out.

Saddam's fate will most likely be decided by the Iraqi Government, instead of a U.S. Military Tribunal. He will be charged for crimes against humanity, and perhaps war crimes against the U.S. depending on the intelligence they gathered at his arrest.
The question on my mind is whether a "fair" trial is even a possiblily. And how would one even prepare a defense for a man who has committed such attrocities.  Maybe he should hire Johnny Cochran!!!  Smiley

Someone please enlighten me here....

I heard that Iraq does not have a valid government yet.  Therefore, the U.S., under the Geneva Convention, cannot release a POW to a non-govenrment.

I overheard someone comment that according to Muslim religious beliefs, Saddam will go to hell for failing to commit suicide upon being captured.  I don't know if this is correct or not, but I figured that if he goes to hell, it will be for a lot of things he did prior to being captured.  He will be so far into hell by the time they get to his failure to commit suicide that it won't matter.

I say bury him in pigskin like the Russians did to deter terrorism.  Supposedly the soul of the Muslim buried that way cannot travel on to Heaven to collect his virgin prizes.   Roll Eyes
