Mark my words if Bush is elected again there will be a draft I agree we can't be sending reservests to go and fight a war and again you are right we are not in a state of emergency. I believe that we needed to go after Saddam but I believe the blunder came in the planning of a quick war. (You know the war is over by the way so says the President) Now because of this poor planning we have the weekend warriors going over there. I salute these men and women who are going over there and the ones that are still there and the ones who have died there. This is why we are the greatest nation in the world. Speaking of the world God help us if China decides to flex their muscles. God Bless America!!

Yep, I'd say China can be a problem, with all the trouble going on around the World it's kinda like reading the last book of the Bible, if I was a fatalist I'd say what is written there is coming to pass before our very eyes, those Weekend Warriors as you call them, are trained and trained and are almost as good as our full time troops in my opinion, as well they knew what they signed up for when they put their john handcock on that dotted line.

Do not underestimate the former Soviet Union, some may trust them, I do not, they will not lose their thinking on who should control the World and could join with their Commie neighbor China and just about take the World over, if not for the US and our Weapons, these liberal fruitcakes who demand we appease every tin horn dictator and commie as well as get rid of all our Nukes are as retarded as a broken brick and use their brains and common sense as much as that brick could.

We have to fight and stop terrorism now, or they will, not maybe, WILL  do things that we here in America will not want to live thru, If 9-11 did'nt convince every "thinking" American of these murdering mental patients intentions, then I have no idea what could, maybe a nuke set off in Washington DC?? One on the shores of Florida?? How about New York???  

If they can get their hand on one nuke from another Country, they WILL USE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keeping that in mind, do you know any thinking American that would vote for an appeaser over Bush? I think all but Al Gores former runnin mate say we should be out of Iraq and quit stirring up the terrorist, just as the left wing of the party told them to do. Me, I say find them, hunt them down, every last murdering one of them and no matter how long it takes, kill them all, they gave NY no warning, no Quarter, they deserve none. Hunt them down and take them out.

Right now they are headed into Iraq, the Troops are there, hopefully we can get as many as is possible, but as Bush has stated, it could last many years, but no one in their right mind thinks you can appease these nutz by pulling out or hiding in our homes hoping they will go away, I mean Clinton ignored their attacks for his eight years while they attacked and killed Americans and they still hit us again on 9-11, I for one don't want them rewarded for killing our people on sept 11, if we pull out they will be embolden and you can bet more attacks will be headed our way.

       As to Bush being re-elected, I'd say he will be, things could at any time go very badly wrong and then things may change, but not many thinking common sense Americans looking at the field of Democrats and listening to their appeasment rap, and pull out and hand over to the UN plans, yep, the same UN who just ran out with their tails between their legs after they were attacked once, Oh,...they can handle handing out our food and medicine as long as no bad guys are around to scare them, kinda reminds you of the leftist crying bout Bush's war made up in Texas don't it?

Do we need the Draft or better yet do we want the Draft coming back?  

For me the answer is NO!

I personnally do think we want or need it. People who are forced to do a job never do it as well as someone wanting to do the job. Ask any boss or supervisor.

If we need anything we need more bodies on active duty but due to the "Do more with less" mentality that came about after Desert Storm I don't see that happening.

When we in the active side of the house need bodies where do we get them? The Gaurd and Reserves.

Never Forget, we are at WAR! Make no mistake about it. We are fighting people who will use or do anything to stike the U.S. Military or civilian.

From flying airplanes into buildings to car bombs. These people do not wear a uniform, stand behind a flag or reside in one country so you have to fight them when, where and how ever you can.

And to do so you need the bodies.

We can fly the missions, drop the bombs and make the target go bye-bye in a cloud of dust but you still need that person in the uniform to take and hold the ground.

Those bodies have to come from some where and the last time I was in the states Wal-Mart didn't carry those on the shelves. Narrows it down some doesn't it.

But also keep in mind, a person who wants to do the job is does it better then someone who is forced to.

That's my 2 cents worth.

First off..

Easy on the Vols!!! I've been stationed all around the world the last 20 years and I still love my Vols!

1.4 million is a nice number but again..if they choose to serve and if congress will let them!

Keep in mind we (the military) have a cap on how many we people can maintain on active duty (Salt I or Salt II or one of those treaty's) plus all the people who said "Russia is gone, we don't need that many people in the military anymore so let's cut the bases (close them) and the number of people in the military. It'll help the budget!"

Remember those people?

With the ops tempo we have, the operations that are on going around the world (Bosnia, Iraq, Afgan, Humanitarian Relief missions), everyone is going to see more time in the field, eat more MRE's (Meals Reject by Everyone) and those hitting the field will stay longer.

With all of this in mind I would rather have that 1.4 mil be here on their own, then anyone who is forced.

As a rule and not always mind you, draftees have one thing on their mind. "Do their time and get out!"

And let me ask you this....

If China did march do you honestly think we would have time to draft, train and deploy the forces?

Think about it, if China marches they would use every thing they had (NUKES, Chemical Weapons). Then use the sheer numbers of equipment, people and weapons to clean up and hold the ground.

Also keep in mind the US would not their main target. You have Russia who has no love loss for China that I know of and anyone else that China has made upset or has upset China in the last few hundred years.

China also knows they would have to hit Russia, U.S., England and all the NATO countries at the same time. It's very hard to build that kind of force and no one notice it.

When you talk about China going on the march, which terms are you thinking in? WWII with conventional weapons or today with Nukes and Chem weapons?

And I strongly feel that yes China would have to use everything China had if China wanted to survive a war. Not win it, but survive.

Someone once said in the 70's or 80's "If you gave everyone in China a hand grenade and told them to march. Russia (in their hey day and using nukes against China) would be nothing more then a speed bump. Russia might last 3 or 4 days".  I don't know who, when or how accurate this is but it was something I've heard.

Would this happen? China arming all it's people and say go for a march? I really don't think so and here's why...

There is an old saying "Never give anyone a gun unless you know which direction they are going to point it!"

China wouldn't risk arming all her people because China isn't sure which direction that barrel would be pointing if it went off!

That's my 2 cents anyhow. Again this is my personal view.

The reason I feel the the US would not be their main concern is geography. There are 2 oceans Pacific on their western border and the Atlantic once they get by Russia.

Yes we would be a Target, a big one and one that would have to be dealt with but like I said we are on one side of the pond. Russia is right next door!

To me it seems that Russia would be the major concern. How many troops does still Russia have?

As far as "Master Plan to destroy the US" I would be surprised if 95% of the countries out there DIDN'T have a plan. Only problems with plans, you got to make them happen.

But back to the original question, Do we need a Draft. My answer is Yes as long as it's not a lite beer. ha ha

That's the only draft I see us needing because you still have to get the guys drafted, trained and deployed to do any good.
